By: Nathan Roshawn | From: TrueRants Network A situation unfolded today in Columbus, Ohio on the campus of the Ohio State University involving a student, Abdul Razak Ali Artan. It is alleged that Artan delibaretly drove over a curb crashing into an area where students were present. Students say Artan then stepped out of his car with a knife and began slashing towards them, injuring 11. Officer A. Horujko of the OSU Police Department was seconds away from the incident and responded immediately, fatally wounding Artan on the scene. As of this article, no other fatalities have been reported.
Those are the real facts. However, in a mad dash to report first, news agencies misreported it as an "active shooter" incident. Then claims that it was a "terrorist" attack were spread by news agencies. Their is no evidence that this situation is tied in any way to what society has labeled "terrorism". The suspect was a student at OSU, of Somalian decent, and a legal permanent resident of the United States. In reality, it is unknown why he acted out and attacked students. An investigation into his mental state, recent behavior, and connections is being conducted. With the recent attack on social media and Independent news sources, such as this one, for disseminating "fake" news. I find it very important to note that "trusted" news sources reported untrue facts during this event and continue to suggest ties with terrorism. The original definition of a "terrorist" was a person, group, or organization who commits acts of violence to coerce, intimidate, manipulate, or influence a government or entity to provide demands for either financial, political, or other gains. This, and other similar acts, does not meet that criteria. What criteria this situation does meet is that of a individual who, for no other reason then his own, decided to lash out against humanity violently and carelessly. In order to stop these isolated events, we must define them for what they are first. Not Terrorism, but individualized acts of violence. We must find the reasons and triggers that snap people into this mindset and work on correcting that. At the root of most all of these events, we find people who had mental issues that could have been addressed if someone took notice. I predict we will find similar conclusions at the outcome of this event. At least this time no innocent life has been lost. |
