3 Cuban Citizens Stranded On Deserted Island Rescued After 33 Days!

A U.S. Coast Guard vessel on patrol in the southern Atlantic ocean noticed 3 people waving what appeared to be a makeshift signal flag off the coast of the Bahamas.

The U.S. Coast Guard Southeast District 7 sent food, water, and a radio to the island to communicate, while a Coast Guard rescue chopper was sent from Clearwater to the small island of Anguilla Cay.

A press release from the Coast Guard said the three people swam to the island when their small vessel capsized in choppy seas.

The survivors were rescued and flown to Lower Keys Medical Center where they reportedly showed no signs of severe injury.

When questioned by the Coast Guard the survivors said they ate coconuts and rat meat and were stranded for 33 days before seen by the patrol.

Sean Connett, Command Duty Officer for the 7th District stated “This was a very complex operation involving asset and crews from different units, but thanks to good communication and coordination between command centers and pilots, we were able to safely get everyone to a medical facility before the situation could worsen.”

The Lower Keys Medical Center had no additional comments.
